The Legacy of Queen Elizabeth-II (The longest reign monarch )
- Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor (Queen Elizabeth II) was born on the 21 st April 1926 during the reign of her paternal grandfather “Late King George V”.
- Her father the Duke of York “ Late King George VI ” was the second king who ascended the throne after his brother “ Late King Edward VIII ”.
- She was named after her mother “ Late Queen Elizabeth ”. She was very closed to her paternal grandmother “ Late Queen Mary ”. Her paternal grandmother used to call her “Lilibeth"
- Queen’s only sibling “ Late Princess Margaret ” was born in the year 1930. Both the princess were educated under the home supervision and were only taught about their ancestors.
- After the death of Queen’s father in the year 1952. Princess Elizabeth became the “Queen” of 16 “ Commonwealth Countries ”. These countries involves Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan etc.
Marriage
- Queen Elizabeth II met her future husband between 1934 1937.
- Her husband's name was “ Prince Philip ”. She was only 13 years old when she felt that Prince Philip was the only one.
- She was only 21 when they announced their engagement. It was officially announced on 9 July 1947.
- Before the marriage Prince Philip renounced his Greek and Danish titles. He adopted the style of Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten .
- Just before the wedding he was made the “ Duke of Edinburgh ” under Queen Elizabeth II’s father reign.
- The couple got married on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey.
- Queen Elizabeth II’s only uncle “ Late King Edward VIII ” was not invited as he had broken the protocols set by the royals due to which he had to step down from his King’s position.
Reign
- Coronation
- In the year 1951 when “ Late King George VI” health declined Princess Elizabeth used to attend various types of public gathering and meeting on behalf of her father.
- In the year 1952 when Princess Elizabeth went on a tour to Kenya. After spending a night when the word arrived of the death of Princess Elizabeth’s father, Prince Philip told the news to the new queen. She was shocked.
- On returning to Britain the personal secretary of the new queen asked her about her regnal name without thinking she choosed “Elizabeth II”. This annoyed many scots as she was the first Elizabeth to rule Scotland.
- When they returned Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip shifted to Buckingham Palace from their own house “ The House of Clarence ”.
- With the accession of Elizabeth, it seemed probable to the royal house would bear the Duke of Edinburgh’s name in the line with the customs of wife having the same surnames as their spouse on the marriage.
- The Duke’s uncle: Lord Mountbatten suggested “ House of Mountbatten ”, The Duke himself suggested “ House of Edinburgh ” after his title. The British Prime Minister and going to Queen’s paternal grandmother suggested “ House of Windsor ” so on the 9th of April 1952 Elizabeth issued a declaration that “ Windsor ” will be the name of the royal house.
- The Duke complained that being the father of my children they will not have my name as their surname.
- After the resignation of Winston Churchill , the Queen’s 1 st Prime Minister in the year 1955 and after the death of Queen’s paternal grandmother the royal name changed in "Mountbatten Windsor"
- Despite the death of the “ Late Queen Mary ” on the 24 March the coronation on 2 June 1953 went ahead as planned as the Queen Mary had asked before her death.
- The ceremony took place in the Westminster Abbey with the exception that it was broadcasted on the television for the first time. The Queen’s coronation gown resembled the commonwealth countries.
2. Silver Jubilee
- In the year 1977 “Queen Elizabeth” completed 25 years in her office.
- Many parties and celebrations took all over the commonwealth countries. These celebration took to re affirmed the Queen’s popularity but a there was a coincident took place which was a negative news for the royal family. Princess Margaret had separated from her husband “ Lord Snowdon ”.
- In the year 1978, the Queen endured a state visit to the United Kingdom by a Romanian Communist “Nicolae Ceausescu” and his wife “Elena” though privately she thought that they had “Bloods on their hands”.
- The following year there were 2 blows: a) Unmasking of “Anthony Blunt” former “Surveyor of the Queen’s Picture” was a communist spy. b) The death of the “ Lord Mountbatten” by the Provisional Irish Republican Army.
3. 1980's
- During the year 1980 “Trooping the Color” ceremony six before the wedding the Prince Charles and the Late Lady Diana ” six shots were fire at the Queen from a close range as she rode down the mall in London. After police discovered that the shots were blank and had identified the shooter. The person was sentenced to jail for 5 years, but he came out of the jail within 3 years.
- Months later in “New Zealand” the same incident took place a person tried to assassinate the Queen, but she missed the shot. Later it was found by the New Zealand police that it was shot by a person named “ Christopher Lewis ” who was just 17 year old.
- He was sentenced 3 years in jail, but he tried to escape to that he could assassinate “Price Charles”.
- From the year 1982 the Queen’s third son “ Prince Andrew ” served with the “British Forces” for which the Queen felt anxiety and proud.
- On the year she found awoke in her bedroom with and intruder named "Michael Fagan ” in her room with her.
- After hosting US President “ Ronald Regan ” at the Windsor Castle ” in 1982 and visiting his “ California Ranch ” in 1983, the Queen was angered when his administration ordered in the invasion of Grenada one of her Caribbean realms without informing her.
4. 1990's
- In the year 1991, in the wake of victory in the Gulf War the Queen became the first British Monarch to address the United State Congress.
- In a speech on 24 November 1992 to mark her “ Ruby Jubilee ” on the throne. Queen called that year as a horrible year “Annus Horribilis” because of the following:-
A) The Republican feeling in Britain had risen because the press estimates of the Queen private wealth which were contradicted by the palace and reports of affairs and strained marriages among her extended family.
B) In March Queen’s son “ Prince Andrew and his wife Sarah ” separated.
C) In April Queen’s only daughter “ Princess Anne ” separated with her husband.
D)During a state visit to Germany a person threw eggs at her. - In the year 1995 Queen’s son “ Prince Charles ” and the Late Lady Diana ” separated their. In August 1997, the year after the divorce of “Prince Charles” and “Late Lady Diana” Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris. The Queen was enjoying her holiday at “ Balmoral Castle ”. Diana’s two sons Prince Harry and Prince Willam Duke of Sussex and Duke of Cambridge” respectively wanted to attend the church, so the Queen and the “Late Duke of Edinburgh” took them in the morning.
- Queen and the Duke shielded the 2 boys from the media and the press. The royal failed to fly the flag at half past at the “ Buckingham Palace ” which caused a great criticism. Under the pressure Queen had to return to London and had to do a live broadcasting on the “ BBC ” the day before Diana funeral.
- In October 1997 Queen and the Duke paid a visit to India. They made a controversial visit to Jallianwala Bagh to pay tribute to the people who lost their life during the massacre. People wrote slogan like “Go Killer Queen” but when the Duke and Queen mourned for 30 sec the protesters became calm.
- In November Queen celebrated her Golden wedding anniversary and she referred her husband as “ Strength and Stay ”
5. Golden Jubilee
- In the year 2002 Queen marked her Golden Jubilee. On that year, the Queen had lost her mother as well as her sister in February and March, respectively. A million of people had attend the celebration on the third day and the enthusiasm shown by the people was unexcepted by the Queen and the journalist.
- Though she had a healthy life, but the Queen had a knee surgery in the year 2003. In the year 2006 she missed the opening of the “ Emirates Stadium ” because she had a back muscles pull which was troubling her since the summer.
- In May 2007, “ The Daily Telegraph ” citing some unnamed source stated that the Queen was frustrated by the Prime Minister “ Tony Blair ” that was concerned with the British Armed Forces that was overstretched in Iran and Afghanistan. She had raised concerns over the rural and countryside with Blair.
- Elizabeth addressed the UN for the second time in 2010 against her capacity as Queen of all Commonwealth realms and the Head of the Commonwealth. The UN secretary “ Ban Ki Moon ” introduced her as the “ An Anchor of our age.
- During her visit to New York and Canada she officially opened a memorial gardens for the “ British victims of 9/11 ”. On the 11 day visit of Queen to Australia in 2011 it marked Queen’s 16 visit the country since her coronation.
- The Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee marked 60 year on her throne and celebration took all over her realms the wider Commonwealth and beyond.
- She and her husband undertook a vey extensive tour over the United Kingdom while her children and grandchildren embarked on royal tour of other Commonwealth states on her behalf.
- On 4 June jubilee bacons candles were lit all around the world. In November, the Queen and her husband celebrated her Sapphire Anniversary (65). On 18 December she became the Britain Monarch after “ George III ” to attend a Peace Time Cabinet Meeting ”.
- The Queen who opened the 1976 Summer Olympics she also opened the 2010 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in London making her first head of state to open two Olympics Games in two countries. For the London Olympics, the Queen played herself in a short film as a part of the opening ceremony along side Daniel Craig.
- On April 4, 2013, she received an honorary “ BAFTA ” for the patronage of the film industry and was called “ The most memorable Bond Girl ” at the award.
- Queen surpassed her great great grandmother “ Late Queen Victoria ” to became longest British monarch.
- Queen Elizabeth will be the first British Monarch to celebrate Platinum Jubilee. This Jubilee is planned for the year 2022 and she would surpass “ Late Louis XIV ” of France as the longest reigning monarch of a sovereign state in verified world history on 27 May 2024.
- She does not intend to abdicate through Prince Charles began to take on more of her duties when she entered her 90’s and began carrying out fewer public events. On 28 April 2018, the government leader of Commonwealth countries declared that she will be succussed by Prince Charles, and he will be the Head of Commonwealth.
- The Queen stated that she “ sincere wish ” that Charles would follow her role. Queen plans for her funeral codenamed “ Operation London Bridge ” have been prepared by the British operation and Media operation in 1960’s.
- Prince Philip retired from his Royal duties in August 2017. After 73 year of marriage, he died on 9 April 2021 after which Queen Elizabeth became a widow like Queen Victoria. She remarked that his death “ left a huge void ”. Despite of COVID 19 pandemic in United Kingdom the Queen still took part in the 2021 opening parliament and hosted the G 7 Leader in Cornwall as well as she took a part of in 47 G 7 Summit.
- Queen Elizabeth is the daughter to “Late King George VI” and “Late Queen Elizabeth”. She was married to the “Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip” and mother to 4. She was a mother to Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. She is also a grandmother to 8. She was the grandmother to Prince William, Prince Harry, Peter Philip, Zara Tindall, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Lady Louis Windsor and James Viscount. Queen is also great mother to 11. She is great grandmother to Prince George of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Prince Louis of Cambridge, Archie Mountbatten Windsor, Lilibeth Diana Mountbatten Windsor, Savannah Philip, Isla Philip, Mia Tindall, Lena Tindall and August Brooksbank. Queen was also mother in law and grandmother in law.
- Elizabeth personal fortune has been the subject of speculation for many year. In 1971 “ Jock Colville ” Queen’s personal secretary and the director of her bank estimated that her wealth was £2 million. In 1993 Buckingham Palace was called estimated of £100 million “grossly over stand”. In 2002 she inherited 70 million from her mother. The Sunday Times Rich List 2020 estimated that her personal wealth was £350 million making her 37 richest in United Kingdom.
- The Royal Collection which include thousands of historic work of art and British Crown Jewel is not officially personal owned, but it is held in the trust of Queen. There are official residence like the Buckingham Palace, Windsor Palace and Duchy of Lancaster these property portfolio valued for £72 million in 2015. The Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle are personally owned by her. The British Crown Estate with holding of £14.3 billion in 2019.

D) Since 6 February 1952: Her Majesty The Queen - Queen Elizabeth has held many title and honorary military positions through the Commonwealth. In each of her realms she has a distinct that a follow a similar formula: Queen of Jamaica and the other realms and the territories in Jamaica, Queen of Australia and the other realms of Australia etc. When with the conversation with Queen the practice is to address her initially as “Your Majesty” and thereafter “Ma’am”.
